Update on Swine Flu

As of June 8, 2009, the Department of Health (DOH) announced that the country has reached 46 mild cases of the A (H1N1) virus. Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III further emphasizes that incidence of flu and flu-like illnesses will most likely rise as the rainy season begins. Though occurrence of a flu pandemic is believed to be possible due to human-to-human transmission, DOH says that there is no community-level outbreak in the country yet.

Though it seems that the number of cases in the country is relatively low, still we need to observe preventive measures to ensure that we are protected from this deadly virus. In an article entitled Swine Flu: An Emerging Pandemic, it is stated that according to health officials, we are now ready to face another flu epidemic. After the incidence of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and avian flu, health officials believe that we are now more ready to combat viruses. Modern technology can detect viruses faster and provides us today with “artificial respirators and antivirals” (Tacio, 2009, p. 25). However, no matter how prepared our new technologies are to the threats of new viruses, there is a need to be extra cautious and to find ways how to protect ourselves.

Those who feel the symptoms of flu are advised to stay at home. We are constantly reminded to cover our nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing. We can prevent the spread of virus by washing our hands regularly. The anti-bacterial and antiviral properties of neem-based BGone soap will help stop the transmission of the virus. Strengthen our immune system by taking Ningxia Goji mango, chocolate and coffee drinks. Complete with immune boosting properties, these goji beverages will surely improve your health and keep you away from life-threatening viruses.
